Malaga, Nov 30 (NationPress) Pranavi Urs has secured her position in the Top-3 by adding an impressive 3-under 69 to her earlier 6-under 66, placing her tied for third after two rounds at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de Espana.
The golfer from Mysuru, currently experiencing her inaugural complete season on the Ladies European Tour, is now at 9-under after 36 holes, trailing the leader Carlota Ciganda (67-66) who stands at 11-under.
Pranavi, a former Hero Order of Merit champion in India, shares third place with Helen Briem from Germany, who recorded scores of 66-69 to also be 9-under. In second place is Pia Babnik of Slovenia, who has achieved consecutive rounds of 67.
Aditi Ashok, the defending champion, recorded a score of 71 following her first round of 70, putting her at 3-under 141 and tied for 23rd, while Diksha Dagar, a two-time LET champion, scored 71-72 for 1-under 143 and is tied for 31st. Tvesa Malik (72-75) is tied for 61st.
Pranavi Urs started strong with two birdies in her initial three holes, though she did drop her only shot of the day on the eighth hole. She later added two more birdies on the ninth and 15th holes.
“I could have made many more putts than I missed, so hopefully that will improve in the coming days,” said the Indian player. “The game was overall solid, although I didn’t create as many chances as yesterday. I made a few minor errors, but that’s just part of golf. It was a decent day overall.
“I’m gradually adjusting to playing in the last group. The crowd here is amazing, and they’re all supporting you. It has been a fantastic experience,” Urs remarked.
Ciganda, a seven-time LET champion, commenced the day two shots behind the leader and maintained a bogey-free second round at Real Club Guadalhorce Golf. She started with a birdie on the second hole, followed by another on the fourth, and then back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh to finish the front nine at four-under. Ciganda, who previously won this event in 2021, continued her strong performance on the back nine, adding two more birdies to conclude with a score of 66, leading the tournament at 11-under-par.
The 20-year-old Pia Babnik from Slovenia, assisted by her brother as caddy, achieved a bogey-free score of 67 (-5) for the second consecutive day, placing her in outright second after 36 holes in Spain.
