Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Johannesburg, April 16 (NationPress) Pranavi Urs achieved a remarkable bogey-free 3-under 70 during the opening round of the Joburg Ladies Open, part of the Ladies European Tour, making her the highest-ranked Indian among the five competing at the event. By the conclusion of Day 1, she stood in a Tied-21st position at the Par-73 Randpark Golf Club.
Tvesa Malik and Diksha Dagar both finished the first round at 1-under 72, placing them in Tied-54th, while Avani Prashanth ended with a score of 2-over 75, and Hitaashee Bakshi struggled with a 4-over 77. Both Avani and Hitaashee will need to deliver significantly lower scores to remain in contention.
Tvesa, participating in her first LET event of the year, briefly reached 4-under through the front nine but ultimately finished at 1-under 72 after incurring a double bogey and a bogey on the 15th and 16th holes.
Meanwhile, Diksha, currently ninth in the LET Order of Merit, notched five birdies, three bogeys, and a double bogey in her round of 72.
The lead was held by Agathe Laisne from France, Brianna Navarossa from the United States, and Ariane Klotz from France, with each scoring an impressive 7-under 66.
Laura Beveridge from Scotland and Justice Bosio from Australia shared the fourth position at 6-under 67 each. Slovenia’s Pia Babnik, Wales’ Lydia Hall, and France’s Celine Herbin completed the top-10 with scores of 5-under par.
On the first day, local favorite Casandra Alexander recorded a score of 69 (-4) despite starting with a bogey on her opening hole, the par-4 10th. As the highest-ranked player in the field, she sits at 41st in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
“It wasn’t a solid round,” Alexander reflected. “It was a bit of a rollercoaster, but a tidy rollercoaster. It’s still early days, but it’s nice to shoot an under-par round on day one. I had a disappointing bogey finish with a three-putt, but that’s golf, and it happens. I’m hopeful for three more days of good golf ahead.”
A total of 73 players managed to finish under par on the opening day at Randpark Golf Club, including five South African competitors.
