Johannesburg, April 4 (NationPress) Pranavi Urs demonstrated excellent form prior to the suspension of the first round of the Joburg Ladies Open due to a flooded course at Modderfontein Golf Club.

When play was halted, eight groups remained on the course, set to resume their rounds on Friday. Among them was Pranavi, who was at 5-under through 13 holes.

England’s Mimi Rhodes completed her 18 holes and continued her impressive start in her rookie season, leading with a round of 65 (-8) on the par-73 course.

Pranavi, a previous champion on her home tour, the Women’s Pro Golf Tour, began with a bogey on the par-5 tenth but quickly bounced back with five birdies across the remaining eight holes on the back nine. She added another birdie on the second hole, finishing at 5-under to secure a T-4 position when play stopped.

Rhodes topped the leaderboard at 8-under, followed by Casandra Alexander of South Africa at 7-under and Singapore’s Shannon Tan at 6-under.

Alongside Pranavi, the other Indian players completed their rounds with Diksha Dagar at T-21 with a score of 71. Meanwhile, Avani Prashanth and Tvesa Malik faced challenges, both finishing at 4-over 77, tied for T-107th, needing a strong second round to make the cut.

Rhodes, aged 23, began on the 10th tee and set an impressive tone with a birdie on her first hole, maintaining a bogey-free round, including back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13, and another on 16. The rookie capped her round with four additional birdies on the front nine, finishing at 8-under.

Just two weeks prior, Rhodes clinched her first Ladies European Tour (LET) title at the Ford Women’s NSW Open in Australia and aims to keep up the momentum.

South Africa’s Casandra Alexander holds the second spot with a round of 66 (-7), having dropped a shot on the 3rd hole.

Ireland’s Lauren Walsh and Pranavi are tied for fourth place at 5-under, with Urs still to complete four holes.

Three players are tied for sixth, all at 4-under. England’s Alice Hewson and Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjall both shot rounds of 69 (-4), while another English player, Hannah Screen, is currently 4-under with two holes remaining.
