Pranavi Urs Secures Tied 36th at Joburg Ladies Open with Solid Finish
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Joburg, April 20 (NationPress) Pranavi Urs concluded her week with a solid performance, achieving a score of 1-under 72, which earned her a tied-36th position at the Joburg Ladies Open. As the sole Indian golfer to make the cut, she navigated a challenging round that featured an impressive four-hole series from the second to the fifth, where she recorded par, birdie, eagle, and bogey. In total, her round comprised two birdies, one eagle, and three bogeys.
Unfortunately, the other Indian competitors—Diksha Dagar, Tvesa Malik, Avani Prashanth, and Hitaashee Bakshi—did not advance past the cut.
In an exciting twist, France’s Agathe Laisne celebrated her second Ladies European Tour (LET) title of the season after triumphing in a dramatic playoff against Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley. The trio, including South Africa’s Casandra Alexander, ended up tied at 19-under par after 72 holes, leading to a playoff at Randpark Golf Club.
Despite a strong finish with a 7-under 66, Alexander was eliminated on the first playoff hole after she could not match the birdies made by Laisne and Rudgeley at the par-5 18th hole.
As the playoff continued, Laisne and Rudgeley matched each other shot for shot as daylight waned. Rudgeley narrowly missed a seven-foot birdie putt for the win on the third playoff hole. With diminishing light, the 18th hole was shortened to a 78-yard pitch. Laisne capitalized on this opportunity, landing her shot within 10 feet and sinking the birdie putt, while Rudgeley’s eight-foot attempt went astray, securing the victory for the French player. This marks Laisne’s second win in just two months, following her success at the Ford Women’s NSW Open in Australia.
Celine Herbin finished in fourth place at 16-under par, while England’s Cara Gainer and Slovenia’s Pia Babnik shared fifth place at 15-under.
Pranavi Urs was the only Indian golfer to advance to the weekend rounds at the Joburg Ladies Open, barely making the cut at Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg. After a commendable opening round of 3-under 70, she followed up with a 1-over 74 in the second round, finishing right on the cutline. Despite a tense finish, Pranavi managed to retain her position and ended up tied for 52nd.
Her second round was a mix of performances. She started strong, going 1-under through the front nine, but faced challenges later with four bogeys against just two birdies. A bogey on her last hole, the ninth, put her qualification in jeopardy, but she ultimately advanced by the narrowest margin.
The rest of the Indian contingent could not progress beyond the cut. Tvesa Malik and Diksha Dagar fell short by a single stroke, each posting rounds of 72 and 73. Avani Prashanth (75-74) and Hitaashee Bakshi (77-74) trailed further behind and missed the cut by larger margins.
The Ladies European Tour will now head to Cape Town for the upcoming Investec SA Women’s Open.
