Premier League: West Ham Secures Victory Over Wolves to Break Winless Streak

London, Dec 10 (NationPress) West Ham United triumphed over Wolverhampton Wanderers with a score of 2-1 at the London Stadium, effectively bringing their winless streak to an end and lightening the burden on head coach Julen Lopetegui.
Wolves wing-back Matt Doherty netted a rare goal in the 69th minute to equalize after Tomas Soucek had given West Ham the lead with a looping header. The match became more engaging after a dull opening half. West Ham, who had a goal from Mohammed Kudus disallowed by VAR while leading 1-0, quickly regained the advantage with Jarrod Bowen delivering a precise finish just over two minutes later, as reported by the Premier League.
Despite their efforts, Wolves could not secure another equalizer, marking their third consecutive defeat, which leaves them in 19th place on the Premier League table, four points shy of fourth-bottom Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, West Ham remains in 14th position, now with a nine-point buffer from the relegation zone.
Both teams struggled to score in the first half, with Joao Gomes squandering a clear chance by shooting wide, while both Bowen and Kudus tested goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
West Ham took the initiative nine minutes into the second half when Tomas Soucek, unmarked at the back post, headed a corner from Bowen over Johnstone and past Gomes, who was covering on the line.
Kudus thought he had scored again when he converted Bowen's cross, but a VAR check ruled him offside. Wolves took advantage of this, as Matt Doherty struck a low volley past Lukasz Fabianski from 12 yards to level the score.
However, West Ham quickly responded: Bowen skillfully turned Goncalo Guedes and curled the ball into the bottom-left corner, securing what would turn out to be the winning goal.
"We are pleased, and we dedicate this victory to Michail and his family. The past week has been challenging, especially the last few days. He deserves this win. We care deeply for Michail; he is a special person to us. I am confident he will overcome this tough time and come back stronger. Today, the best way to honor him is with this victory," commented West Ham manager Lopetegui.
