New Chandigarh, April 4 (NationPress) Punjab Kings is set to kick off their home segment of the Indian Premier League 2025 with a match against Rajasthan Royals at the New PCA Stadium, New Chandigarh, on Saturday.
Before their initial home match, the team’s spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi held a press conference to share insights into the team's morale and preparations.
Joshi emphasized the strong camaraderie among players, which forms the basis of a positive dressing room environment.
He noted, “This season, the atmosphere is markedly different. We have a robust team spirit and excitement among the players. Every team aims for victory. Thus, we are dedicated to ensuring effective preparation, creating a supportive environment, and keeping our players in an optimal mental state. Our dressing room vibe has transformed significantly this year.”
“I can’t speak for other teams, but our camps were well-structured. This has contributed to our domestic and international players being in excellent form. The contrast in our team dynamics compared to previous years is evident. It’s encouraging to see players in peak form and high spirits. Our young and optimistic captain, along with head coach Ricky Ponting, provides exactly what our players need,” he remarked.
Joshi also expressed high expectations for Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who took one wicket in each of the last two matches and emphasized his importance to the team.
“Maxwell is crucial for us regarding spin bowling. Each venue has its unique characteristics, and he is adept at understanding them. He has performed well in our last two matches. With his extensive experience, I’m confident he will excel in our home games,” he added.
He also discussed the team's form, noting that their performances in the last two games indicate readiness for the demanding IPL season. Joshi stressed that the disparity between home and away conditions diminishes when players are performing well, which is vital for any team's success.
“When your squad of 16 performs admirably and you have 8 bowling options and 9 batting options, there’s minimal to worry about. Home or away, if your team is succeeding, the focus should be on priorities and player needs. We have effectively aligned our strategies,” Joshi explained.
Punjab Kings’ first home match against Rajasthan Royals on April 5 will commence at 7:30 PM, followed by another home showdown against Chennai Super Kings on April 9.
