Guwahati, Nov 21 (NationPress) Following his absence from South Africa’s 30-run victory over India in the initial Test held in Kolkata, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been officially ruled out of the second Test against India in Guwahati, as well as the upcoming white-ball series, due to a stress injury to his rib bone.
To fill the void left by the injured Rabada, Lungi Ngidi has been added to the squad. The Proteas medical team has been diligently monitoring the injury, and due to ongoing pain in the affected region, Rabada has been withdrawn from the rest of the tour.
According to a statement from Cricket South Africa (CSA) released on Friday, "He will begin the first phase of his four-week rehabilitation program with the Proteas medical team before returning to South Africa after the conclusion of the second Test."
This situation suggests that South Africa may field an unchanged team for the forthcoming encounter in Guwahati. Simon Harmer was the standout performer for South Africa in the Kolkata Test, claiming eight wickets in a Player of the Match display.
He was supported by fellow left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj, while all-rounder Marco Jansen led the pace attack, alongside other all-rounders Wiaan Mulder and Corbin Bosch. It remains to be seen whether Ngidi will get a chance to play in Guwahati.
Led by Temba Bavuma, South Africa approaches the match in Guwahati with aspirations of achieving their first series win on Indian soil in 25 years. Following their triumph in the World Test Championship in June, South Africa drew 1-1 in Pakistan and narrowly defeated India by 30 runs on a challenging pitch at Eden Gardens. They now have an opportunity to secure a Test series victory in India, a feat last accomplished by the Hansie Cronje-led Proteas in 2000.
