Dubai, March 9 (NationPress) New Zealand's standout batter Rachin Ravindra emerged as the top run-scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 during the final against India at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

Having accumulated 226 runs in three matches prior to the final, Rachin needed just a single run to surpass England's Ben Duckett, who held the lead with 227 runs in three matches, including a remarkable high score of 165 runs. Sadly, Duckett's impressive run was cut short due to England's early exit from the tournament.

In the finals, Rachin tallied 37 runs off 29 balls, featuring four boundaries and a six, before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav in the 11th over. He concluded his tournament with a total of 263 runs, finishing 42 runs ahead of Virat Kohli from India.

The left-handed opener and Will Young provided a solid start for the team after Blackcaps captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to bat first. Their partnership of 57 runs was the highest against India during the powerplay of the tournament.

Rachin kicked off the tournament on a high note, scoring a century against Bangladesh in his opening match. He missed New Zealand's first game against Pakistan due to a head injury sustained during the pre-tournament tri-series.

In a group stage match against India, he was dismissed for six runs but bounced back with another century against South Africa in the semi-final held in Lahore. His innings of 108 runs included 13 fours and a six, which, alongside Kane Williamson's 102, propelled New Zealand to a formidable total of 362/6 in 50 overs.

In response, New Zealand successfully restricted the Proteas to 312/9, setting up a final showdown against India.

Currently, with 217 runs, Kohli ranks fourth in the tournament's highest run-scorer list, with the opportunity to eclipse Rachin's score during India's innings. Other notable Indian players in the rankings include Shreyas Iyer with 195 runs and Shubman Gill with 157 runs, positioned at eighth and eleventh, respectively.
