  • India is preparing for a crucial series against England.
  • Shafali Verma makes her return to the T20I team.
  • The squad has been bolstered with Sayali Satghare included in both formats.

Mumbai, June 12 (NationPress) All-rounder Radha Yadav has been announced as the replacement for the injured Shuchi Upadhyay in India's squad for the forthcoming white-ball series against England, commencing later this month.

India is scheduled to compete in five T20Is and three ODIs against England, who recently appointed Nat Sciver-Brunt as captain and Charlotte Edwards as head coach.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed in a statement: "The Women’s Selection Committee has named Radha Yadav as a replacement for Shuchi Upadhyay in Team India’s squads for the England tour."

Shuchi has been ruled out due to a left shin injury sustained during the pre-tour camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru.

She was one of three newcomers selected alongside Sree Charani and Kranti Goud for the T20I team. Shuchi made her ODI debut against South Africa in the Women’s Tri-Series last month, marking her sole appearance in national colors.

The announcement of India’s squad for the tour featured Shafali Verma, who is making a comeback to the T20I team. Although Shafali is only included for the T20I segment, Sayali Satghare has been named in both squads, bolstering India’s fast bowling lineup, which is currently weakened due to injuries to Renuka Singh Thakur and Titas Sadhu.

Shafali has been absent from the national setup since last year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, where India did not progress to the semi-finals. Following impressive performances in domestic 20-over and 50-over formats, Shafali scored 304 runs across nine innings with a strike rate of 152.76 for Delhi Capitals (DC) in WPL 2025, finishing fourth in the run-scorers list.

This remarkable form has prompted the Neetu David-led selection committee to reinstate Shafali in the T20I framework.

For the ODIs, aside from Sayali’s inclusion, the selectors have retained the victorious side from the recent tri-series in Sri Lanka, which included South Africa as the third team. The three ODIs against England present significant opportunities for India to refine their combinations ahead of this year's ODI World Cup, to be hosted on home soil in September-October.

The five T20Is between India and England will occur at Trent Bridge, Bristol County Ground, The Oval, Old Trafford, and Edgbaston from June 28 to July 12. The three ODIs are set to take place in Southampton, Lord’s, and Chester-le-Street from July 16-22.

India’s updated T20I squad includes: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (WK), Yastika Bhatia (WK), Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Sree Charani, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare, Radha Yadav.

Point of View

I firmly believe that the inclusion of Radha Yadav in place of Shuchi Upadhyay is a strategic decision that reflects the dynamic nature of sports. The selection committee's choices underscore the depth of talent within Indian women's cricket and their commitment to fielding the best possible team, especially with the ODI World Cup on the horizon. This adaptability is crucial as India prepares to face England, a formidable opponent.
