Jaipur, March 12 (NationPress) The head coach of Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid, is set to rejoin the team's training camp in Jaipur on Wednesday, just one week after sustaining an injury to his left leg while participating in a club match in Bengaluru. The IPL franchise posted a photo on social media on Wednesday, showcasing Dravid with a cast on his left leg, captioning the post, "Head Coach Rahul Dravid, who encountered an injury while playing Cricket in Bangalore, is on the mend and will be with us today in Jaipur."

The former captain of the Royals played five seasons with the franchise from 2011 to 2015. He began his coaching journey with the Royals in 2014, transitioning from player to mentor. The former Indian head coach made an unexpected return to the cricket field, playing alongside his younger son Anvay in a KSCA Group I, Division III league match during the Nassur Memorial Shield on February 22.

Rahul Dravid and Anvay represented Vijaya Cricket Club (Malur) in a 50-over match against Young Lions Club at the SLS Kreedangana cricket ground in Bengaluru.

The iconic Indian cricketer batted at No. 6 and scored 10 runs off 8 balls before being dismissed by spinner AR Ullas, forming a short-lived 17-run partnership for the fifth wicket with his son.

Dravid participated in a second match during the tournament's semifinal against the Jayanagar Cricketers. When Vijaya Cricket Club found themselves in trouble at 12/3 in the seventh over, Rahul came to the crease alongside Anvay. Just two deliveries into his innings, the 52-year-old showed signs of discomfort due to his leg injury but continued playing, adding a 43-run partnership with Anvay off 66 balls.

Despite his injury, Dravid persevered until he required assistance to leave the field. However, his valiant efforts could not change the outcome for Vijaya Cricket Club, which faced defeat in the KSCA Group III league tournament semifinal.

Dravid, who was in Guwahati for the recent pre-season camp of Rajasthan Royals before heading to Jaipur, will be present in the dugout for the team's IPL 2025 opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 23.

The Rajasthan Royals clinched the title in the inaugural season in 2008 and reached the finals again in 2022. The Sanju Samson-led team secured third place in the league phase in 2024 but was eliminated by the eventual runners-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad, in Qualifier 2.
