New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) Following a narrow six-run loss to Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu remarked that several errors made by the five-time champions in their ground fielding were quite hard to watch.
During the match at Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Sunday evening, CSK faced their second consecutive defeat as Nitish Rana scored a blistering 81 runs off 36 balls, while Wanindu Hasaranga took 4 wickets for 35 runs, leading RR to their first victory of the tournament. Although CSK did manage a few spectacular catches, they also missed several easy opportunities, while RR capitalized effectively.
“In a tightly contested match, these one-percenters can make a big difference. We witnessed amazing catches throughout the game—it’s quite uncommon! Conversely, Chennai Super Kings’ fielding left much to be desired, with perhaps only a couple of commendable stops in the infield.
“Rajasthan Royals came prepared, demonstrating that fielding transcends just having a youthful lineup—it hinges on anticipation and awareness. Riyan Parag’s catch, when Shivam Dube was batting well, proved to be a pivotal moment. Historically, Chennai Super Kings have not been recognized for their fielding prowess—perhaps in their earlier years they were.
“However, the performance in their first two matches this season has been rather disappointing. Missing straightforward chances and experiencing difficulties in the outfield are critical issues needing swift resolution. Some of their blunders were genuinely hard to witness,” Rayudu stated on JioHotstar.
Rayudu also shared insights regarding the winless status of five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and suggested possible strategies for improvement as they prepare to face the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in their first home game at Wankhede Stadium on Monday evening.
“I believe Mumbai Indians possess a strong squad this year—it’s merely a matter of time before they regain their form. They have the right talent; it’s simply about fine-tuning their combinations and positioning the players correctly. Perhaps placing Naman Dhir at No. 3 and moving Hardik Pandya up the order could fortify the batting lineup.
“Regarding Hardik, he has already established himself as a leader with Gujarat Titans, and no other Indian cricketer has likely faced a tougher phase than him. Nevertheless, he has exhibited remarkable mental resilience, securing vital ICC tournaments for India. Now, guiding Mumbai Indians stands as another demonstration of his fortitude. I’m confident he and the team will rebound strongly,” he concluded.
