RCB Head Coach Andy Flower Praises Jacob Bethell's Exceptional Potential

New Delhi, Nov 28 (NationPress) Following the signing of Jacob Bethell for INR 2.6 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Andy Flower has expressed his belief that the England batting all-rounder has a player with a very high ceiling. Bethell recently made his T20I and ODI debuts against Australia in September and is now participating in his debut Test match against New Zealand in Christchurch, shortly after securing his first Indian Premier League (IPL) contract.
“Jacob Bethell is a guy with a very high ceiling. I believe that when he plays, our fans will thoroughly enjoy watching him. As a left-hander, he is a beautiful striker of the ball, with excellent timing. He hits the ball well over extra cover, executes slog sweeps against spinners, and ramps quick bowlers effectively. He will not only be crucial for us as a batsman this year but has the potential to grow, which could bring us rewards in the future,” stated Flower, a former England head coach.
The potential of Bethell is something that England Captain Ben Stokes has also highlighted. “He is an incredibly talented young player with a high ceiling. You can see something very special in him, particularly when he faced Hazlewood and hit that full ball off the front foot. Those moments indicate he possesses what is necessary. We do not make decisions lightly; there is a thought process behind it, and we are eager to see him in action.”
The year 2024 has emerged as a breakthrough year for Bethell, who bats left-handed and bowls left-arm spin. His impressive performances in the T20 Blast for Warwickshire and the Hundred for Birmingham Phoenix have led to his selection for England across all formats.
“He has appeared completely at home in international cricket, which is remarkable for someone who has hardly played any cricket. He seems to have the right qualities; his technique appears straightforward, with minimal movements, no significant trigger actions, and he shows great control,” commented England batting legend Sir Alastair Cook.
