IPL 2026: Jitesh Sharma Discusses Bowler Confusion with Romario Shepherd Partnership
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 2 (NationPress) The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), are gearing up for their second match against the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. RCB finishers Jitesh Sharma and Romario Shepherd discussed their on-field synergy, emphasizing how their unique playing styles present a significant challenge for bowlers in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Jitesh pointed out the strategic benefits of their collaboration, explaining how their different strengths create complications for field placements of opposing teams.
"I believe that when we are batting together, it can confuse the bowler. I utilize various angles, while he has the ability to strike the ball with immense power. This dynamic can perplex the bowler in terms of field placement," he mentioned in a video shared by RCB on X.
Shepherd chimed in, highlighting the assurance he feels while batting alongside Jitesh, crediting him for cultivating a positive atmosphere in the middle.
"Whenever I’m batting with him, I feel a surge of confidence because he always makes me believe that I’m at my best. He encourages me to hit every ball for six, which boosts my confidence to play my shots," he stated.
Despite his own aggressive batting style, Jitesh acknowledged that replicating Shepherd’s power is a formidable challenge. "I can’t achieve the same level of power. If I attempted to attain that, I might have to consider switching careers to bodybuilding or something similar. But it’s incredibly challenging to match his power," he added.
Shepherd also commended Jitesh’s ability to maintain composure and adaptability, especially under pressure, which allows him to stay calm when needed.
"When you’re at the crease with someone like Jitesh, his ability to keep calm and collected, while possessing all the necessary shots, makes it easier for him to execute creative shots, like scoops. In T20 cricket, that’s exactly what you want," he commented.
"Just getting a ball out of his game plan is easy since Jitesh excels at that. Batting with him is a lot of fun," Shepherd concluded.
Both players had a significant impact on RCB's success last season, with Jitesh accumulating 261 runs across 15 matches, while Shepherd scored 151 runs in just 8 matches, including a remarkable 14-ball fifty against CSK.
