Hazlewood Highlights RCB's Strength in IPL 2026: Communication and Execution
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) Josh Hazlewood, pacer for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, praised the team's effective execution and strong communication within the bowling unit as the keys to their commanding victory over Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026. He emphasized how the squad adapted to the challenging home conditions.
After RCB dismissed LSG for a mere 146 on a somewhat difficult pitch at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Hazlewood noted that the pitch's characteristics were pivotal, making their chase all the more remarkable.
“Last season, we faced some challenges in the first half during our home matches. Winning the toss and opting to bowl first was beneficial. The pitch behaves differently than what we’re accustomed to—it's slower and has variable bounce, complicating batting. I believed our chase was executed excellently. All our batsmen are in excellent form and confidence, and achieving the target swiftly on such a surface is significant,” Hazlewood shared with JioStar.
He highlighted that RCB's bowling triumph stemmed from adhering to straightforward strategies and executing them well, with seasoned bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar crucial in assessing the conditions early on.
“It's all about simplicity in planning; effective execution is vital, and placing the ball in the correct areas is key. Bhuvi assessed the pitch conditions in his first over, leading to some field adjustments. The communication within our bowling unit, especially from Bhuvi who bowls the opening overs, is a major strength. This is likely why we performed so well in our away games last season,” he stated.
Hazlewood acknowledged that he may not possess ‘Bumrah-level skills’ and does not heavily depend on deceptive deliveries like slower balls. His strength lies in precision and control.
“I lack the unique skills of Bumrah or others with variations, so I adapt as needed. I continually refine various techniques in practice, aiming to utilize them when necessary. In this match, it was crucial to focus on accuracy, hitting the appropriate length, even employing some cross-seam deliveries while keeping our approach uncomplicated,” he concluded.
