Hazlewood Attributes RCB's Bowling Success to Slow Wicket and Fundamental Approach Against LSG
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 16 (NationPress) Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fast bowler Josh Hazlewood attributed his team's commanding performance against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to the slow wicket and their straightforward bowling strategy.
Hazlewood, who earned the Player of the Match accolade following an outstanding bowling display, stated that the pitch conditions enabled RCB's bowlers to adhere to their fundamentals instead of complicating their game plan.
“We maintained a simple approach. The wicket provided enough assistance, so we didn’t feel the need to overthink it. We communicated well that the pitch was quite slow and had a bit of variation, particularly if you consistently hit the right length,” he mentioned in a video shared by IPL on X.
The Australian pacer stressed that accuracy was the cornerstone of his economical performance, conceding only 20 runs in four overs while taking one vital wicket.
“It was one of those matches where less was more. We kept it uncomplicated and focused on being precise in our bowling,” he added.
Hazlewood further acknowledged the significance of home crowd support and his familiarity with the conditions at Bengaluru.
“We love playing here. The home fans are amazing. Winning the toss is a great advantage, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing in Chinnaswamy,” he stated.
Reflecting on RCB’s current momentum, he highlighted their recent victory over the Mumbai Indians away from home, which inspired him to deliver a strong performance.
“Winning against Mumbai in their territory is always significant. We did it last year and again this year, which has propelled us forward,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, Hazlewood acknowledged the challenge posed by the Delhi Capitals in an uncommon home day match.
“Facing Delhi at home during the day is a rarity for us, and it’s usually quite hot. Delhi is another formidable side, so we need to be consistently sharp in this tournament,” he noted.
RCB exhibited a thorough all-round performance, first limiting LSG to a total of 146 runs and then successfully chasing it down in just 15.1 overs, securing the top position in the points table.
With this victory, RCB ascends to the top of the points table with 8 points from five matches. They are set to take on the Delhi Capitals at the same venue on Saturday.
