New Delhi, Sep 3 (NationPress) The captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajat Patidar, has finally spoken out regarding the tragic stampede that resulted in the loss of 11 fans during the team’s first IPL title celebration. He emphasized the importance of solidarity with their loyal supporters.
Shortly after RCB shared Virat Kohli’s first official response post-incident, Patidar declared that the team will rediscover its strength.
“Every time I step onto the field for RCB, it’s fueled by passion, which stems from your love, your trust, and your steadfast support. You’ve always been there for us, and I want you to know that we are here for you too. You have been in my thoughts and prayers. Together, we will find our strength once more,” stated Patidar in a message released via RCB's official social channels.
After RCB's historical IPL victory, thousands of exuberant fans assembled outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 for the official celebration. Unfortunately, the joyful event turned tragic as the venue became overcrowded, leading to chaos when fans attempted to force their way into the stadium, resulting in a devastating stampede.
In response to the tragedy, RCB has launched a new initiative called 'RCB Cares', aimed at providing support and fostering a sense of community following the incident.
As part of its long-term plan, RCB has committed to working closely with the IPL and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to establish enhanced crowd management measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The franchise had previously announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for each affected family. Expanding on this, 'RCB Cares' will serve as a platform aimed at “supporting, empowering, and elevating our 12th Man Army through impactful actions.”
Following the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB's celebration, the Karnataka government has set up the Justice John Michael D'Cunha Commission to investigate the incident. The commission’s report highlighted that the stadium's “design and structure” are fundamentally “unsuitable and unsafe” for large gatherings.
The stampede incident was also brought up in the Karnataka Assembly during the recent monsoon session.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the Assembly regarding the tragedy, noting that similar incidents have occurred globally. He asserted that historically, no one has been held accountable for such events.
In response, opposition leaders from the BJP and JD(S)
On the actions taken, CM Siddaramaiah stated, “We have suspended five senior police officials. Although the police denied permission for the celebrations, they failed to formally communicate this. RCB and KSCA tweeted between 7:01 am and 8:00 am, with significant view counts. Instead of taking action, the police allowed the celebrations to proceed unchecked.”
He added, “Justice cannot be achieved merely through apologies. True justice will occur only when proper measures are taken. Charges have been filed against RCB, DNA Entertainment Private Ltd, and KSCA, and the case has been assigned to the CID.”
“A chargesheet will be submitted following the court’s consent. We have met our obligations. This tragedy should never have happened. I extend my heartfelt regrets once again,” Siddaramaiah concluded.
