New Delhi, April 27 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has expressed admiration for Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, highlighting his adeptness at utilizing his resources effectively during the current IPL 2025 season.
Currently, the Lucknow franchise boasts five victories in nine matches, placing them at sixth in the points tally. They are set to face Mumbai Indians at the iconic Wankhede Stadium this Sunday afternoon.
Kaif commended Pant for his leadership, noting that LSG has triumphed in challenging situations despite lacking a star bowler. Players like Avesh Khan and Digvesh Rathi have played pivotal roles in securing victories.
"Rishabh Pant has been executing commendable captaincy in IPL 2025. He has effectively maximized his resources. Working with young talents like Avesh Khan, rookie Digvesh Rathi, and replacement player Shardul Thakur, he has still managed to clinch thrilling wins in close games.
"He even guided Avesh to defend nine runs in the final over of one match. It’s crucial to extract the best performance from available players, and that’s precisely what Rishabh has achieved, even without a prominent international bowler in their lineup," Kaif remarked on Star Sports.
However, Pant's batting performance has been less impressive, with only 106 runs in nine matches, including a top score of 63. If he doesn’t regain his form, this season could mark his first time since 2016 scoring under 200 runs in an IPL campaign.
In his previous season, he scored 446 runs in 13 games for Delhi Capitals, including three half-centuries.
Pant was acquired by LSG for Rs 27 crore in last year’s auction, making him the most expensive player in the league’s history.
