New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) Former Indian all-rounder Roger Binny expressed his profound pride in receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent BCCI Awards, describing it as the pinnacle of a lifetime dedicated to cricket, encompassing his roles as a player, coach, and administrator.

"I was incredibly honored to be informed by the BCCI about this award. It's something every cricketer dreams of - being recognized with a lifetime achievement award. My journey involved significant effort to reach various milestones in cricket, including administration and coaching, all of which are intertwined with the sport. This recognition is truly a great honor for me," Binny stated in a video shared by the BCCI on Monday.

Binny, who played a crucial role in India's historic victory at the 1983 ODI World Cup, reminisced about the unforgettable moments that shaped his cricketing career. "I feel fortunate to have represented India. In a nation with such a vast population, few are granted the opportunity to wear the national colors. Thus, achieving this goal was the greatest accomplishment of my cricketing journey, something I aspired to from a young age.

"Growing up, I dreamed of being featured on television and being part of victorious teams. I managed to achieve that dream, culminating in our World Cup victory and the World Championship of Cricket during my tenure. From 1983 to 1986-87, we triumphed in every one-day competition globally and across Asia during that era.

Upon retiring, Binny quickly recognized that he still had much to contribute to cricket and transitioned into coaching, leading India to victory in the 2000 Men’s U19 World Cup. "This period was significant for me, enabling me to excel in various tournaments. Initially, I planned to take a break from cricket. However, I soon realized my potential to make a substantial contribution to the sport.

“This realization prompted me to enter the coaching realm, starting in my home state of Karnataka, then coaching the Indian U19 team. It was an uplifting experience, allowing me to convey the essence of being a cricketer and what it entails to perform in competitive matches.

“I enjoyed sharing valuable insights with young cricketers. Coaching junior teams is especially fulfilling, bringing immense joy and reward.

Binny's commitment to cricket eventually led him into administration, culminating in his role as the BCCI President. "After concluding my coaching journey, I recognized there was still more I could give to the game through administration. I began my administrative career in my home state in 1999, progressing from a committee member to the vice president and subsequently the president of the KSCA. Subsequently, I joined the BCCI and enjoyed leading it for a significant period, as I could continue contributing to cricket even off the field.

In closing, Binny paid heartfelt tribute to his family. "This moment is not just a personal achievement but a proud occasion for my family. They have been my unwavering support throughout my journey - from my wife and children to my parents.

“My parents were my initial motivators when I began playing. They provided the encouragement that every young cricketer needs. If they were here today, they would take great pride in my contributions to cricket.
