Mumbai, April 1 (NationPress) Indian cricket legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are poised to maintain their A+ grade contracts, valued at Rs 7 crore in the BCCI's yearly player agreements.

Despite retiring from the T20 format, both Rohit and Kohli will remain in the prestigious A+ category. Shreyas Iyer, who emerged as India’s top run-scorer in the recent Champions Trophy, is expected to make a return to the central contract list, as per sources from IANS.

In contrast, wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan, who was notably left out along with Iyer last year, will have to wait for his comeback in the central contracts.

All-rounder Axar Patel, who played a crucial role in India's undefeated runs in the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy, is also likely to receive a promotion.

Varun Chakaravarthy, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Abhishek Sharma, who have excelled for India across various formats over the last year, are also strong candidates for their first central contract.

Recently, the BCCI revealed the annual retainers for the Indian women's senior team for the 2024/25 cycle.

Previously, IANS reported that the meeting between Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, and Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which was scheduled to be held in Guwahati on Saturday, was postponed.

This meeting focused on two key issues: the annual retainers for the men’s team and the initial structure of both the India ‘A’ and senior teams for the upcoming tour of England.

The conclusion of the Indian Premier League will initiate the five-match series against England at Headingley starting June 20. This will mark India’s first Test series following their defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia 3-1. India last clinched a Test series in England back in 2007.
