Dubai. Feb 19 (NationPress) India’s quest in the 2025 Champions Trophy is set to kick off on Thursday, as the 2013 champions prepare to face Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium. Prior to their opening match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma disclosed that India's "key to victory" hinges on their top order performing at peak capacity.

Even though India's run at the 2023 ICC World Cup concluded in disappointment, the host nation had shown exceptional dominance against all challengers en route to the final in Ahmedabad, largely due to their explosive top order.

Virat Kohli and Rohit were the tournament's top two run-scorers, amassing 765 and 597 runs respectively, while Shreyas Iyer contributed significantly with 530 runs, forming a robust top order.

“Producing hundreds at the top is our key to success. Our top four is established and seasoned. They know that one of them needs to secure a century. However, during the World Cup, we fell short on hundreds and still managed to post substantial totals. Everyone aims to contribute and not focus on individual achievements; every batsman must fulfill their role. If 7-8 of us adopt this mindset, we will be in a strong position,” Rohit stated in a press conference.

India is also counting on vice-captain Shubman Gill, who recently attained the No.1 position in the latest ICC Men's ODI player rankings released on Wednesday. Gill has been in remarkable form, with his century against England in Ahmedabad during the third ODI of the recent series propelling the 25-year-old to the top.

Rohit lauded his teammate for the "impressive stats" the 25-year-old has been posting.

“Gill is a stylish player, and there's no doubt about his talent. Although we switch formats, he has excelled in this one. His statistics are astonishing. He has been excellent for us. There's a reason he's been promoted to vice-captain,” he added.

With India missing key pacer Jasprit Bumrah and concerns surrounding Mohammed Shami's fitness, considerable attention turns to India's spin-dominated lineup, which features five spin bowling options: Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Varun Chakravarthy.

Rohit also dismissed any criticism regarding the inclusion of five spinners, emphasizing that the team is focusing on its strengths.

“We have two spinners and three all-rounders. I don't view them as five spinners. Jadeja, Axar, and Washi provide us with great depth. Many teams take six pacers when they have pace-bowling all-rounders. No one questions them about having one pacer too many. That’s their strength, and we concentrate on our strengths,” Rohit asserted.
