Mumbai, March 10 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) extended heartfelt congratulations to Team India for their remarkable success in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where they claimed victory in a commanding manner, reaffirming their status as the top-ranked team in both ODIs and T20Is.
The spinners from India played a pivotal role, collectively taking five wickets on a sluggish pitch, while captain Rohit Sharma led the scoring with 76 runs and KL Rahul contributed an unbeaten 34, securing the Men in Blue their third Champions Trophy title with a four-wicket triumph over New Zealand on Sunday.
"From the very beginning, the team aimed for excellence, overcoming tough challenges with a style of cricket that was both fearless and disciplined. Their unbeaten streak in an ICC tournament is a clear testament to their consistency, strategic execution, and relentless desire to excel on the global stage. The final match against New Zealand was a fitting conclusion to this journey - a showcase of resilience and mastery under pressure," read the BCCI statement.
Roger Binny, the president of BCCI, remarked, "This victory marks a significant moment for Indian cricket, following the high of last year’s T20 World Cup triumph. To dominate yet another global competition and bring home the Champions Trophy is an extraordinary accomplishment. The team has exhibited unmatched consistency and character, and I commend captain Rohit Sharma, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and the entire squad for their historic achievement."
The BCCI praised captain Rohit Sharma, under whose leadership, India secured their second ICC trophy in less than nine months after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup against South Africa in Bridgetown.
"His capacity to inspire and lead by example played a crucial role in India's successful campaign... These two titles firmly establish his legacy as one of India’s finest and most accomplished captains," it stated.
Rohit has now joined the ranks of those with two ICC titles in less than a year, surpassing legendary cricketers Sourav Ganguly (2002 Champions Trophy) and Kapil Dev (1983 ODI World Cup).
Devajit Saikia, secretary, commented, “India's victory in the Champions Trophy 2025 reflects their perseverance, careful preparation, and fearless performance. The team has demonstrated exceptional skill and unity, making the entire nation proud. This win is special and will be remembered for years to come.”
Rajeev Shukla, vice president of BCCI, added, "Winning an ICC title is always a notable achievement, and this team has done it in a dominant fashion. The seamless combination of experience and youthful vigor has been remarkable, and this victory will inspire future generations of Indian cricket."
The BCCI also acknowledged the significant contributions of head coach Gautam Gambhir, whose bold strategies and tactical insights were vital in shaping this winning team. "His focus on self-belief and strategic execution was evident in the players' performance throughout the competition," it continued.
"This victory is a true testament to the talent and dedication of Indian cricket. The manner in which this team has performed under pressure and delivered in critical moments is genuinely commendable. Congratulations to every player, the support staff, and the fans who have supported the team," said BCCI treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia.
