Charlotte, June 22 (NationPress) Pachuca's forward Salomon Rondon stated that his squad is in a much stronger position to challenge Real Madrid at the FIFA Club World Cup compared to their previous encounter in last year's Intercontinental Cup final.
In that match, Madrid dominated with a 3-0 victory, leaving Pachuca exhausted from a grueling schedule.
“Having faced Real Madrid before gives us insight, but this time around, we won't be as fatigued as we were in that final where we clearly came off two very challenging matches,” Rondon remarked, as reported by Xinhua, ahead of the upcoming match in Charlotte.
“The difference in our energy levels will be significant, and I anticipate it will be a thrilling match,” he added.
Pachuca needs a win to stay in contention for the knockout rounds after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Salzburg in their Group H debut.
On the other hand, Madrid managed only a 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal in their first encounter.
Rondon, who played a pivotal role in Pachuca's 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup victory, expressed his commitment to mentoring younger players on the team.
“I take great pleasure in assisting our younger members. Although we have a youthful squad, their determination to improve is remarkable,” the 35-year-old stated, emphasizing the seriousness with which he approaches the tournament.
“Competing in this event is of immense importance to me. We represent Mexico and CONCACAF, and personally, my country Venezuela. Witnessing the caliber of the other teams makes clear the significance of this tournament, which is why we treat it with the utmost respect,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen, who joined the club earlier this month, expressed his excitement: “This is a dream realized. Every child dreams of playing for Real Madrid, the greatest club in the world, and I am incredibly proud to be here.”
“The team has a wonderful spirit and camaraderie in the locker room. We are ecstatic to have Xabi Alonso on board; his innovative ideas promise exciting times ahead. We are Real Madrid, and our goal is to win, which I believe we will achieve,” he concluded.
