Brisbane, Jan 1 (NationPress) World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has expressed her desire for a rematch against Nick Kyrgios after losing to him in the second round of the highly publicized “Battle of the Sexes” match.
The two athletes faced each other in Dubai on Sunday, where Kyrgios triumphed with a score of 6-3, 6-3 in a closely contested and entertaining match. However, Sabalenka found herself on a court that had been altered by nine percent to address the differences in mobility and speed between male and female competitors.
Looking back on the event, the Belarusian stated that she would prefer a different arrangement if they were to meet again, especially concerning court dimensions and serving regulations.
"I would definitely participate again. I am driven by the need for revenge, and I dislike leaving things as they are. I believe that for the next match, we will devise a new format. Before the match, I wasn't aware that I would need to adapt, and it was somewhat challenging for me. I would prefer to keep the full court but allow for two serves. This would significantly balance our levels," Sabalenka commented on Thursday as she prepared to defend her title at the Brisbane International.
She mentioned that the experience provided her with valuable insight into Kyrgios’ playing style and reinforced her confidence that she could improve in a future encounter.
"I always say that losing is a learning experience, and I learned a great deal about his game. I understand Nick better as both a player and a person, and I feel equipped to compete against him effectively. I would gladly do it again. I need revenge," she concluded.
Despite her defeat, Sabalenka was proud of the challenge she presented to Kyrgios and expressed enjoyment in making him work hard for his victory. She also wished him the best as he prepares to play in Brisbane.
"I am pleased that I could challenge him, push him physically, and make him mentally exert himself. It was thrilling to see a man getting tired and striving for his best game. It was a fantastic experience, and I truly hope he excels here in Brisbane and showcases his incredible talent at the Australian Open," she stated.
