Sachin Tendulkar Receives Honorary Membership from Melbourne Cricket Club

Melbourne, Dec 27 (NationPress) The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has revealed that the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has accepted its Honorary Cricket Membership. Founded in 1838, the MCC is one of the most historic sports clubs in Australia.
The club oversees the management and enhancement of the renowned Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which is currently hosting the traditional Boxing Day Test match between India and Australia.
“An icon honoured. The MCC is excited to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has embraced an Honorary Cricket Membership, recognizing his remarkable contributions to cricket,” stated the MCC on its X account on Friday.
Tendulkar is celebrated as one of the greatest batters in cricket history, with an international career spanning from 1989 to 2013. He scored 100 international centuries, accumulating a total of 34,357 runs over 664 matches for India, and was a pivotal player in the victorious 2011 ODI World Cup team.
Additionally, Tendulkar, who captained India, played five Tests and seven ODIs at the MCG, amassing 449 and 190 runs respectively. Currently, he is India’s top run-scorer in Test matches played at the MCG, with one century and three half-centuries to his name.
In 2012, Tendulkar was appointed an honorary member of the Order of Australia (OAM), making him the first non-Australian cricketer to receive this prestigious recognition. That same year, he also earned honorary life membership from the Sydney Cricket Club (SCC).
In 2014, he was granted honorary life membership by the Yorkshire County Cricket Club in England. Moreover, he holds life membership at the Marylebone Cricket Club, the custodians of Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, as well as at MIG Cricket Club in Mumbai, where he honed his skills as a young cricketer.
