Zeljkovic joins on a free transfer, having signed a one-year contract with the team after his previous season at Radnicki 1923 in Serbia.
A Bosnia & Herzegovina international, Zeljkovic is versatile, capable of playing both as a centre-back and a defensive midfielder. His experience includes participation in the 2025-26 UEFA Conference League qualifiers with Radnicki 1923. He was also called up for the potential squad for the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League matches against Italy and the Netherlands, as well as a friendly against Iran.
At 28 years old, Zeljkovic hails from the FK Sarajevo youth academy, where he honed his skills for six years before debuting with Igman Konjic in the second division of Bosnia during the 2017-18 season. The following year, he made a significant transfer to Velez Mostar, one of the leading clubs in Bosnia & Herzegovina, where he recorded 149 appearances over five seasons. In 2023, he returned to his roots at FK Sarajevo, later being loaned to Bunyodkor in the Uzbekistan Super League.
Commenting on the addition, Punjab FC's Technical Director Nikolaos Topoliatis stated, “Our recruitment strategy has always been focused on identifying players who align with our system while also demonstrating strong character and professionalism. Samir brings valuable experience from both Europe and Asia. We are confident that he will enhance our performance and positively impact the growth of our younger talents.”
Zeljkovic expressed enthusiasm for embarking on this new chapter in Mohali, saying, “I’m thrilled to don the Punjab FC colours and begin this new journey. Joining a club that is committed to a meaningful vision is always special. I’ve heard wonderful things about Punjab FC’s ambition to develop football in India, and I want to contribute to that narrative. Indian football is evolving rapidly, and this opportunity felt like the right move for me, both as a player and as an individual. I’m eager to learn, adapt, and support the team in any way I can.”
