Mohali, Oct 26 (NationPress) Punjab FC has unveiled a 26-member squad for the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 ahead of their opening Group C match against Gokulam Kerala FC, scheduled for Monday at the GMC Bambolim Athletic Stadium in Goa.
Head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis has assembled a formidable team featuring five new signings and players who participated in the Durand Cup. He anticipates that the blend of seasoned players and youthful talent will propel the team forward in this competitive tournament, starting with their clash against the I-League side. The kick-off is set for 4:30 PM.
The new signings include international players Samir Zeljkovic, Daniel Ramirez Fernandez, and Pablo Renan dos Santos, along with Indian talents Arshdeep Singh and Bikash Singh Sagolsem. Their addition is expected to enhance the team’s depth, creativity, and defensive solidity as Punjab FC aims to gain momentum in the group stage.
Commenting on the squad, coach Dilmperis stated, “We’ve put together a well-balanced squad that combines our experienced senior players with the enthusiasm of academy graduates and the thrill of our new signings. The boys have put in tremendous effort during training, and I’m pleased with their focus and intensity over the past weeks.”
“Gokulam Kerala is a resilient team, making it crucial for us to commence the tournament positively. We are pleased with our training outcomes and the overall team dynamics, and we aspire to secure a victory in our opener. Our goal is to showcase discipline and character, setting a positive tone for the season,” he added.
Historically, Punjab FC and Gokulam Kerala have met 13 times before, with their last encounter resulting in a goalless draw in this competition back in January 2024. Gokulam has secured six wins in previous meetings, while Punjab has four victories, including two wins during the I-League winning campaign of 2022-23 that marked their promotion to the Indian Super League.
Technical Director Nikolaos Topoliatis remarked, “This squad embodies our long-term vision of cultivating a robust core of Indian players complemented by impactful international signings that bring extensive experience. We are already witnessing promising chemistry and understanding among the players. The Super Cup serves as an excellent platform to evaluate our progress and set the stage for the upcoming season.”
Punjab FC is placed in Group C alongside Bengaluru FC, Mohammedan Sporting Club, and Gokulam Kerala. Following Monday’s match, Punjab FC will face Mohammedan SC on November 2 and Bengaluru FC on November 5.
