Since 2019, Rahul has been a part of the Sehwag International School, where he has received unwavering support. Following the heartbreaking Pulwama attack, Sehwag advocated for free education for the children of martyrs, enabling them to receive quality education at the school, complete with boarding amenities.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to Rahul Soreng for being chosen for the Haryana U19 squad. It has been an honor to support him since the sacrifice of his brave father in Pulwama, and I take immense pride in his progress,” Sehwag expressed on X.
In December of last year, Rahul made headlines with his selection for the Haryana Under-16 team in the esteemed Vijay Merchant Trophy, marking a pivotal moment in his developing cricket career. He had also played for Haryana's U14 team previously.
“It is a privilege to have Rahul Soreng, son of Pulwama Martyr Shaheed Vijay Soreng, who joined Sehwag International School in 2019 and has been with us for the last five years, selected for the Haryana U16 team for the Vijay Merchant Trophy. Few accomplishments bring more joy. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our brave soldiers,” Sehwag shared on Instagram.
Earlier this year, alongside two other promising cricketers, Aditya Pandey and Shivam Anand, Rahul was selected to represent the U-19 Jhajjar District Cricket Team in an inter-district match against Karnal.
Sehwag had previously shared images of children from families of soldiers who lost their lives in the Pulwama attack, training at the Sehwag International School.
“Son of Heroes! It is a great honor to have these two at Sehwag School and to contribute positively to their lives. Batsman – Arpit Singh, son of Pulwama Shaheed Ram Vakeel, and Bowler – Rahul Soreng, son of Pulwama Shaheed Vijay Soreng. Few things bring greater happiness!” Sehwag had posted on X.
