Hyderabad, April 5 (NationPress) Esteemed fast bowler Mohammed Shami shared insights on his pivotal performance during the Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a nail-biting finish, emphasizing that careful planning and proper execution to adapt to the pitch conditions were crucial in restraining the rival batting lineup.

After LSG opted to bowl first, the bowling attack, spearheaded by Shami's brilliance, quickly dismantled SRH's top order. He achieved remarkable statistics of 2-9, which included the dismissals of SRH's opening pair, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Subsequent efforts from Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy attempted to stabilize the innings, combining for a 116-run partnership that allowed SRH to set a competitive score of 156/9.

“I’ve always aimed to give my utmost for the team. It’s important to contribute as much as possible. Performances like this not only benefit the team but also enhance my confidence and aid in future matches,” Shami stated in a video released by IPL.

Shami’s success in the early overs was attributed to his astute utilization of pitch conditions, effectively varying his pace on a surface that required adaptability.

“The pitch plays a significant role. It’s essential to maximize its potential and use slower balls wisely. Batsmen like Abhishek and Travis are accustomed to pace, and it’s crucial to know how to make them play in specific areas to avoid elevation. With these factors in mind, we devised a successful strategy,” Shami explained.

LSG's meticulous death bowling, combined with key batting efforts from captain Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram, enabled them to secure the victory with just one ball remaining.

“The match had its ups and downs; whenever we reached a tie in runs and balls, a dot ball would come into play. The game fluctuated several times, which is expected in T20 cricket. If you don’t maintain a scoring rate of 6-7 runs per over, you will face challenges. Rishabh played exceptionally well; had he gotten out, the team could have faced significant trouble. It was vital for him to remain at the crease,” Shami remarked.

“As the saying goes, if you take your catches, you win matches; otherwise, it becomes challenging because you’re granting the batsman extra opportunities. It’s crucial to secure every catch, regardless of its difficulty. Converting even 50-50 chances can provide your team with a significant advantage.”

The experienced pacer also stressed the importance of staying match-ready through domestic competitions, particularly for players not involved in international games.

“When you're not participating in international matches, maintaining activity through domestic cricket is vital. Domestic games are the best training grounds. Playing these matches helps keep your skills, feel, and rhythm sharp. Spending more time on the field, especially in longer formats, enhances your overall game. Thus, fully engaging in domestic cricket is essential for those not active internationally,” he concluded.
