Ishan Kishan Commends Young Bowlers After SRH's Narrow IPL Victory
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, April 19 (NationPress) Captain Ishan Kishan praised his youthful bowling squad for their resilience under pressure, leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a gritty 10-run victory against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday.
“It's wonderful to have a team of young bowlers. They are formulating their own strategies, and it was great to witness them execute their plans effectively,” Kishan remarked during the post-match ceremony.
Earlier, SRH managed to score 194/9 in their 20 overs, with noteworthy contributions from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen, both of whom scored half-centuries. While they set a solid foundation, losing regular wickets in the latter stages of the innings halted their progress from reaching the 200-run milestone on what seemed like a favorable batting surface.
Kishan acknowledged that the team did not achieve the desired target. “It was a very good batting surface, and we were 30-40 runs short. We could have performed better with the bat,” he stated, adding that they had anticipated at least one batter to deliver a significant innings to push the total past 220.
While defending a total of 195, SRH's bowlers demonstrated poise in critical situations. Eshan Malinga spearheaded the bowling attack with a remarkable three-wicket haul, while Nitish Kumar Reddy provided vital breakthroughs to maintain pressure on CSK. Despite a steady chase, CSK concluded their innings at 184/8, narrowly missing the target.
Kishan credited the young bowlers' preparation and fearless attitude for the outcome. “Watching them in practice sessions, giving their best every day. Just give them the ball and allow them to express themselves,” he emphasized, highlighting the importance of supporting players in executing their strategies.
The SRH captain also reiterated the team's mindset moving forward, stating they are not getting ahead of themselves because of the win. “We are not focused on the points table. We are taking it one match at a time,” he added, indicating a determined and grounded approach as the tournament advances.
With this victory, SRH has climbed to the fourth spot in the points table, having secured three wins in six matches. They are set to face the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 21.
