Dubai, Feb 19 (NationPress) Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed strong confidence as his team gears up for their Champions Trophy opener against India. He highlighted that his squad possesses the necessary firepower to challenge the two-time champions.

With a mix of talented fast bowlers and reliable all-rounders, Shanto is optimistic about Bangladesh making a powerful start in the tournament.

“For us to triumph over India, every department needs to perform well. We have positive memories from our past encounters, and if we stick to our plans, we stand a good chance,” Shanto stated during the pre-match press conference.

“Our quality all-rounders will be crucial, and we’re not overthinking things. Every team here has the potential to win, and we believe in ourselves,” he added.

One of Bangladesh’s key advantages is their formidable pace attack. Players like Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and emerging talent Nahid Rana, who has impressively claimed 20 wickets in six Tests and four in three ODIs, provide a balanced bowling unit capable of taking advantage of the conditions in Dubai.

“We are thrilled to have a fast bowler like Rana on board. If he plays, he will deliver for us. Our squad is well-balanced with both spin and pace options,” Shanto remarked.

While the team is missing veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who was omitted due to a bowling suspension related to a suspected action, Shanto remains undeterred. The selectors opted not to include Shakib solely as a batsman, resulting in the absence of one of their most seasoned players.

“Shakib’s absence is not a concern. In recent years, we’ve developed a robust pace attack. This is the finest seam attack Bangladesh has ever had. We must quickly adapt to the conditions here, as the pitches are not as conducive to high scores as those in Pakistan. Nevertheless, we expect significant crowd support,” Shanto expressed.

With Shakib unavailable, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah will need to step up, taking on their roles as experienced middle-order batsmen and contributors with the ball.

India will miss their pace leader Jasprit Bumrah, who is out of the tournament due to a back injury. However, Shanto was quick to dismiss any focus on any individual player's absence.

“We’re not concentrating on Bumrah or any other individual. India boasts many quality players,” he noted.

Bangladesh is set to face India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, February 20, in a match that promises to be an exciting Group A showdown.
