Bangladesh Reveals Champions Trophy Squad, Excluding Litton and Shakib

Dhaka, Jan 12 (NationPress) Litton Das has been omitted from the 15-member Bangladesh squad for the Champions Trophy. A significant absence from the roster is former captain and experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto will take charge of the team for the upcoming ICC Men's Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place next month in Pakistan and the UAE.

Liton's exclusion follows a string of underwhelming performances in ODIs, where he has not managed to secure a half-century in his last 13 innings, and has been dismissed for single-digit scores six times in his last seven outings.

Shakib's absence is due to his suspension from bowling in competitions because of an illegal bowling action, as he failed a second test of his action. Although he was eligible to participate solely as a batsman, Bangladesh chose not to include him in the squad.

The squad will also lack the presence of Tamim Iqbal, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket and was among the top run-scorers in the last edition of the tournament when Bangladesh reached the semi-finals.

Among the senior players, Mushfiqur Rahim and all-rounder Mahmudullah have solidified their spots. Top-order batter Towhid Hridoy makes a return after recovering from injury, along with Mustafizur Rahman.

Parvez Hossai Emon, who has seven T20I appearances, has received his first ODI call-up. Nahid Rana, who debuted in the format during the recent series against the West Indies, has also been included in the squad.

Bangladesh finds themselves in a group with India, New Zealand, and Pakistan in Group A. Their first match is set against India in Dubai on February 20.
