Shreyanka Nominated for ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year

Dubai, Dec 28 (NationPress) Indian all-rounder Shreyanka Patil has been recognized as one of the nominees for the ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award for 2024. The International Cricket Council revealed on Saturday that she is in contention along with Annerie Dercksen from South Africa, Saskia Horley representing Scotland, and Freya Sargent from Ireland.
Patil made her debut for India in December 2023, marking the start of an outstanding year. The young bowler has consistently excelled for India across various white-ball formats, often shining in crucial moments.
Although primarily recognized for her bowling skills, Patil also possesses untapped talent as a lower-order batter. Her exceptional performances in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup have solidified her position in the national team.
In a pivotal World Cup match against Pakistan, Patil recorded impressive figures of 2/14, effectively limiting the opponents to 105/8. Her economical bowling, including a wicket-maiden, was crucial in maintaining India's chances in the tournament.
Annerie Dercksen’s ascent from academia to international cricket has been remarkable. With a teaching background, the 23-year-old debuted in 2023 and quickly established herself as a key player for South Africa. She played an essential role in leading South Africa to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final in 2024.
Batting lower down the order, Dercksen took full advantage of her chances, notably scoring 69 runs in a three-match T20I series against England. Her all-around contributions across formats have further showcased her potential.
Dercksen’s unbeaten 44 off 23 balls in the T20I series finale against Pakistan was a decisive performance. With South Africa chasing 154, she struck six boundaries and two sixes, leading her team to a thrilling victory and earning the Player of the Match honor.
Saskia Horley has been a transformative presence for Scotland's women's cricket team. Her journey began on a cricket TV program alongside Ellyse Perry and has since led her to make history for her country.
Horley’s ODI performances in 2024 were particularly commendable, highlighted by Scotland's first-ever century in Women’s ODIs. Her significant contributions with the ball in multiple series, including the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, demonstrate her all-round capabilities.
In a tri-series against the Netherlands and Papua New Guinea, Horley scored a composed 100 off 121 balls and followed it with a four-wicket haul of 4/24, propelling Scotland to their highest ODI total of 258/6 and a commanding win.
At only 18 years of age, Freya Sargent has quickly emerged as a crucial player for Ireland. With career-best figures of 3/29 in ODIs and 3/30 in T20Is, she has shown her capability against elite teams.
Sargent’s maturity and poise, especially in high-pressure situations, are noteworthy. Her all-round contributions in both formats position her as one of the most exciting young talents in international cricket.
In a T20I against England, Sargent took three vital wickets, including a run-out, finishing with 3/30. Her impactful bowling spell exemplified her ability to excel against formidable opponents.
