New Delhi, Oct 17 (NationPress) Shubhankar Sharma made an impressive comeback, igniting excitement among Indian golf enthusiasts during the second round of the US$4 million DP World India Championship 2025 at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC).

Shubhankar, a two-time DP World Tour champion, shot a remarkable bogey-free six-under 66, elevating him 67 positions to finish the day tied for 32nd with a total score of four-under 140. Following him were PGTI champion Dhruv Sheoran (68-73), along with international winners Shiv Kapur (72-69) and Anirban Lahiri (70-71), all tied for 41st at three-under 141.

The fifth Indian to advance was two-time PGTI champion Abhinav Lohan (70-72), who made the cut with a total of two-under 142, placing him tied for 58th.

Leading the international field is Tommy Fleetwood (68-64), who surged to the top with a 64 on day two, boasting a halfway lead of 12-under 132. Former Open champions, Brian Harman (68-65) from the USA and Shane Lowry (64-69) from Ireland, are closely following in second place, both at 11-under 133.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy, a five-time Major winner and current world number two, finished the day tied for 17th at six-under 138. The cutoff for the tournament was set at two-under 142, with 66 players advancing.

After starting tied for 99th with a lackluster first round of 74, Shubhankar turned it around dramatically on Friday, scoring birdies on three out of four par-5 holes and sinking two birdie putts from 15 to 18 feet.

Reflecting on his performance, Shubhankar mentioned, “I had a solid start yesterday, but fatigue set in, leading to some poor swings. I realized I was a bit anxious, which resulted in dropped shots. After a good night's rest, I felt revitalized today, played well, and my putting was on point.”

He added, “The last six months were challenging, but I’ve been progressively improving in the past fortnight after adjusting my irons. It’s been a journey to find the right club and shaft combination, but recent changes to my clubs and ball have finally yielded positive results.”

Dhruv Sheoran, who began the day tied for seventh after a first-round 68, managed to maintain his standing with a 73 that included three birdies and four bogeys. He faced a challenging moment on the 18th hole when his tee shot veered right, but he executed a fantastic up-and-down from the bunker, finishing with a 15-foot bogey putt that provided a significant morale boost heading into the weekend.

Dhruv remarked, “After a rough start on the first nine, I took a moment in the locker room to refocus. I told myself to shift the momentum, and when I stepped out, I felt renewed.”
