Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice president Rajeev Shukla on 30 August said the Indian cricket team's management has been giving 'ample opportunities' to emerging players, pointing to recent debutants in the Sri Lanka Test series as evidence of a deliberate youth policy. Shukla was speaking to reporters during a visit to the Tirumala temple in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

Youth at the Forefront

Shukla cited the recently concluded two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which India won 1-0, as a showcase of the team's intent to blood new talent. Off-spin all-rounder Saransh Jain received his Test debut in the drawn Colombo Test, returning three wickets across both innings. Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who made his Test debut in June against Afghanistan, was equally impressive — claiming 16 wickets across the two Sri Lanka Tests, including a six-wicket haul in the first match at Galle.

'We have been giving chances to new players. Maximum new players are being given an opportunity,' Shukla said. 'Ample opportunities are being given to new players.'

Crucial Assignments Ahead

India now faces back-to-back high-stakes series — an away Test series against New Zealand and a five-match home series against Australia. Both assignments carry significant weight in the context of the World Test Championship (WTC) final qualification race, with the team looking to mount a strong late push for a place in the final.

'We will win the World Cup. We are prepared; the boys are filled with energy,' he said, after offering prayers at the Tirumala temple.
