Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bloemfontein, February 25 (NationPress) - Pakistan's women’s cricket player Sidra Amin has been penalized for a violation of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their inaugural ODI against South Africa at the Mangaung Oval on Sunday.
The ICC reported that Sidra violated Article 2.2 of the Code, which pertains to the misuse of cricket equipment, clothing, and ground facilities in an international match.
As a result of this infraction, Sidra has received an additional demerit point, now totaling two within a 24-month span, marking her second offence.
The incident transpired in the 24th over of Pakistan's innings when Sidra, after her dismissal, aggressively struck her bat against the ground before exiting the pitch. She had previously incurred a demerit point for a similar action against India on October 5 during the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
“Sidra acknowledged the violation and accepted the punishment recommended by Shandrè Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, thus negating the need for a formal hearing,” the statement explained.
The charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Kerrin Klaaste and Nimali Perera, alongside third umpire Lauren Agenbag and fourth umpire Stacy Lackay.
Level 1 violations can result in an official reprimand and a fine of up to 50% of the player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
In the match, Sidra managed a commendable score of 68 runs, hitting nine fours against the South African side. Despite her strong performance, Pakistan was all out for just 223 runs while chasing a target of 261, resulting in a loss by 37 runs.
Sune Luus was named player of the match for her all-round performance, claiming two critical wickets and scoring an unbeaten 93 runs against the visitors.
