Madrid, March 15 (NationPress) Spain's national team coach Luis de la Fuente has announced the return of Unai Simon, the goalkeeper from Athletic Bilbao, to the roster for the upcoming UEFA Nations League quarterfinal matches against the Netherlands.
Simon, who has represented Spain on 46 occasions, was the primary choice during last summer's triumphant European Championship despite contending with a wrist injury, according to reports from Xinhua.
An operation to address the injury sidelined him for the initial four months of the season, including De la Fuente's last three selections. However, after making a comeback in December, the coach has promptly reintegrated him into the squad.
The squad features seven athletes from FC Barcelona, with central defender Inigo Martinez also making a return. Players such as Pau Cubarsi, Marc Casado, Pedri, Ferran Torres, Lamine Yamal, and Dani Olmo are included as well.
Meanwhile, young defender Raul Asencio from Real Madrid has received his first call-up following his ascent to the main team in the New Year, making him the only player from Real Madrid among the 27 selected.
