WPGT 2025: Sneha's Birdie Blitz Secures Dominant Victory

Kolkata, Jan 17 (NationPress) Sneha Singh rebounded from a challenging start to deliver an impressive performance during the final round of the second leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour (WPGT) at the Tollygunge Club. She achieved a remarkable total of seven birdies and four bogeys in her last round. The 20-year-old from Hyderabad recorded a score of 3-under 67, marking the best round of the week, to finish at 4-under 206 and clinched victory by an impressive eight shots over the more seasoned Vani Kapoor (74), who faced a challenging day with four bogeys and no birdies.

Sneha, a multi-time amateur champion, has transitioned to professional golf successfully, winning twice in each of the previous two years. She began the final day with a narrow one-shot lead, but both she and Vani stumbled with bogeys on the first, third, and fourth holes. However, Sneha made a strong recovery, scoring birdies on the fifth, seventh, and eighth holes, finishing the front nine at even-par. In contrast, Vani managed only pars, causing her to fall four shots behind Sneha with nine holes remaining.

On the back nine, Sneha achieved three consecutive birdies starting from the 11th hole before slipping with a bogey on the 14th. She quickly regained momentum with a final birdie on the par-4 16th, concluding her round with a score of 67. Vani's round was less productive as she dropped a shot on the 11th and posted pars for the remainder, ending with no birdies. Her score of 74 placed her at 4-over 214, securing the second-best aggregate.

Jasmine Shekar, a two-time winner from the previous season, finished with a score of 1-over 71, which included three consecutive birdies from the 11th to the 13th holes. Overall, Jasmine accumulated four birdies against five bogeys, finishing in third place at 8-over 218.

Anvitha Narender, who played in the final group alongside Sneha and Vani, posted a score of 2-over 72 featuring two birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey on the par-3 eighth hole, tying for third with Jasmine. Kriti Chowhan (73) and Vidhatri Urs (71) completed the top positions at 221 and 225, respectively.

Amandeep Drall, who struggled in the first two rounds with scores of 79, rebounded with an impressive 2-under 68, one of the few under-par scores of the day. This performance provided Amandeep, who aims to participate in several events on the Ladies European Tour, a significant boost, finishing at 226 and tied for seventh.

The winner of the first leg this season, Rhea Purvi Sarvanan (74), placed eighth, while Durga Nittur (77) and Ravjot K Dosanjh (83) tied for ninth, rounding out the top-10. Other notable performances included Shweta Mansingh (75) and Khushi Khanijau (81) who were tied for 11th, and Neha Tripathi (80) who finished tied for 15th. Sneha Singh, the 2023 Hero Order of Merit champion, reclaimed the top position after two events, followed by Rhea Purvi in second and Jasmine in third.
