Soorma Hockey Club Launches Training Camp Ahead of HIL

Chandigarh, Dec 19 (NationPress) Soorma Hockey Club has initiated its training camp at the Sector 42 Sports Complex, preparing for the eagerly awaited return of the Hockey India League, which is scheduled to commence from December 28 to February 1, 2025.

The training camp is a crucial period for establishing tactics, enhancing team unity, and aligning playing methodologies. Sardar Singh, the team’s coach and mentor, highlighted the importance of this camp in fostering camaraderie and mutual understanding among the players.

“This camp is essential for allowing the players to become acquainted with one another, particularly since some have never played together before. Our objective is to ensure seamless coordination on the field and to cultivate a robust, cohesive team atmosphere,” he stated.

The preseason camp currently includes both Indian and international players. The Indian squad, which arrived on December 14, features national team captain and double Olympic bronze medallist Harmanpreet Singh, alongside notable players such as Vivek Sagar Prasad, Gurjant Singh, Maninder Singh, Sunit Lakra, and Mohit HS.

Harmanpreet Singh shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming league and the team’s enhanced preparation efforts. “We are all thrilled to represent Soorma Hockey Club; it holds special significance for us to have the camp in Chandigarh, a region we proudly represent as Soorma Hockey Club. With the addition of international players, the energy has significantly improved, and we are eager to translate that into our performances,” he commented.

The international talents who joined the camp recently bring extensive experience and varied playing styles. This group includes Australian drag-flicker Jeremy Hayward, Belgium’s Nicolas Poncelet, and Victor Wegnez.

The remaining international players, including South African standout Dayaan Cassiem, Belgium’s Olympic gold medal-winning goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch, Dutch strikers Boris Burkhardt, and Argentine midfielder Nicolas Della Torre, are expected to arrive in the coming days.

Soorma Hockey Club will kick off their inaugural campaign on December 29, facing off against the Tamil Nadu Dragons in Rourkela.
