Ranchi, Jan 19 (NationPress) Soorma Hockey Club makes their return to the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Hockey Stadium for their fourth encounter in the Women’s Hockey India League against Delhi SG Pipers on Monday. Following this match, Soorma will also prepare to face Odisha Warriors on January 21.
In their previous encounter with Delhi SG Pipers in Rourkela, Soorma Hockey Club suffered a 2-0 defeat due to goals from Sangita Kumari and Deepika, marking their first loss in the league. Head coach Jude Menezes and his squad are now determined to rectify their performance in the upcoming match against the Pipers.
“We anticipated that they would come out strong, especially since they had lost both their prior matches. However, we didn’t deliver our best. In our initial two games, we were satisfied with our performance, but in the last match, our first half was lacking, even though we improved in the last two quarters. Ultimately, we need to score goals to win, which will be our focal point for the next match,” Jude elaborated.
After their match with the Pipers, Soorma will face Odisha Warriors. In their last meeting, both teams battled closely, with Soorma Hockey Club emerging victorious with a 2-1 scoreline thanks to goals from Hina Bano and Sonam. Odisha Warriors managed to score through Freeke Moes but could not alter the result. This time, Odisha Warriors will be a formidable opponent, featuring star players like Neha, Baljeet Kaur, Yibbi Jansen, and Freeke Moes, who are all performing exceptionally well.
“It’s always a challenging match-up, and as the League goes on, fatigue will set in for the players, making every game tough. We consider every team a serious contender. Maintaining composure and speed will be crucial in hockey; if we excel in these areas, we will frequently achieve favorable results. We’ve had a productive two days of recovery and are mentally prepared for these two consecutive matches,” the head coach added.
As the league approaches its midpoint, Soorma Hockey Club currently sits at the top of the table with six points from three matches.
