Vaibhav Sooryavanshi blazed a stunning 28-ball 97 — the fastest score of its kind in an IPL Eliminator — as Rajasthan Royals posted a commanding 243 for 8 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 Eliminator at New Chandigarh on Wednesday, 27 May. The teenage opener, who walked away wearing the Orange Cap, said his coaching staff had specifically asked him to play without inhibition.

The Sooryavanshi Storm

SRH captain Pat Cummins opened with a defensive field — deep square leg and deep midwicket stationed for the teenager — and bowled full and straight in an attempt to contain him. The plan held for precisely three deliveries before an overpitched ball was dispatched over mid-off for six. 'No, sir. I played that shot on purpose because I saw where the fielder was standing. I tried to hit it much more square. Had I played the ramp toward third man, it would've gone away to the fence,' he said.

Royals Keep the Foot Down

At the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal played an unusual supporting role, contributing 19 off 16 balls while his partner monopolised the strike. After Sooryavanshi's departure, Dhruv Jurel launched a ferocious counterattack, reaching 50 off 20 balls by dismantling Cummins and Shivang Kumar with scoops, pulls, and towering straight hits.
