New Delhi, Oct 16 (NationPress) England's bowling consultant Tim Southee is uncertain about his participation in the upcoming Ashes series in Australia, with his availability likely restricted to the first Test in Perth, commencing on November 21.
Since May, Southee has been part of the England men's team coaching staff as a specialist skills consultant for all formats, albeit on a temporary basis.
His potential coaching role for England during the Australia series is complicated by his commitments to the ILT20, which kicks off on December 2, strategically scheduled to avoid overlap with February's T20 World Cup, as reported by the BBC.
After the announcement of England's squad for the initial T20I match against New Zealand, Southee commented on his availability: "We're still working through that at the moment. We'll see what happens over the next little while."
This weekend marks Southee's inaugural competition against his native country, with the three-match T20I series starting in Christchurch on Saturday. He expresses excitement about reuniting with Brendon McCullum, his former captain from New Zealand, now serving as England's head coach.
"It will be strange but I'm looking forward to it. I appreciated playing under Brendon and sharing a dressing room with him in a different role has been highly rewarding. It was an opportunity too good to pass up," he stated.
In response to fast bowler Stuart Broad's claim that the current Australian team is the "worst team since 2010," Southee expressed confidence in the upcoming five-match Ashes series, set to commence in Perth next month.
"I don't think there's ever a bad Australian cricket team. Our focus is on our objectives. The quality of the (England) side heading to Australia is exceptional. This series should be thrilling, appealing not just to English and Australian fans but to the entire cricketing community," he added.
