New Delhi, Oct 16 (NationPress) The fifth Khelo India University Games is set to take place across seven cities in Rajasthan from November 24 to December 5. Athletes will compete in 23 medal sports along with one demonstration sport, kho-kho.
Similar to the earlier Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar, the University Games will span Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, and Bharatpur. More than 5,000 athletes are anticipated to participate in this 12-day event.
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, emphasized, “The Khelo India University Games are a vital segment in India’s sports framework. Globally, universities play an essential role in cultivating champions, and KIUG offers our young athletes an opportunity to showcase their talents on a national stage. The Rajasthan edition will reflect India’s growing sports culture and serve as a launchpad for many aspiring to represent the nation internationally.”
Dr. Mandaviya further noted, “Under the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Khelo India initiative has established a strong ecosystem fostering participation, talent nurturing, and excellence. The University Games in Rajasthan will motivate countless students to engage in sports while balancing academics and enhance the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat through healthy competition and camaraderie.”
At the KIUG 2025, there will be 23 medal sports and one demonstration discipline. The medal sports encompass archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, fencing, football, hockey, judo, kabaddi, mallakhamb, rugby, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, yogasana, cycling, beach volleyball, canoeing, and kayaking.
As a demonstration event, kho-kho will be featured. Notably, beach volleyball, canoeing and kayaking, along with cycling, are being introduced for the first time in the KIUG agenda.
In the previous Khelo India University Games held in North-east India, Chandigarh University claimed the championship title, while Lovely Professional University and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar secured the second and third places, respectively.
