Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 29 (NationPress) Sreejith V. Nair has been appointed the new President of the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) during the organization’s 75th Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) held on Monday.
Nair, who previously served as the treasurer and secretary of the Association, takes over from Jayesh George, who is currently the Chairman of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Satheesan K, a former Apex Council member, has been elected as the Vice President.
Current Secretary Vinod S. Kumar and Joint Secretary Bineesh Kodiyeri will retain their positions. T. Ajith Kumar, Secretary of the Palakkad District Cricket Association, has been appointed as the new Treasurer, while Muhammed Naufal T., Secretary of the Kasaragod District Cricket Association, will serve as the General Body Representative to the Apex Council.
The new leadership has approved a comprehensive one-year development plan aimed at enhancing cricket infrastructure across all 14 districts and elevating player development systems to meet international standards.
“KCA will pursue major initiatives under the Kerala Sports Infrastructure Development Scheme announced by the State Government, leveraging special concessions under the Land Act.
“As part of the strategy, cricket grounds and associated facilities will be upgraded in all 14 districts. Infrastructure for other sports will also be developed alongside cricket facilities, ensuring consistent training standards and modern amenities throughout the districts,” stated the KCA.
Nair emphasized that the KCA intends to construct an international cricket stadium in Kochi in partnership with the state government. “Further negotiations will be conducted with the government to secure a long-term lease for the Sports Hub International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram and to establish a High Altitude Sports Centre at Munnar for cricket, football, and other sports,” he noted.
Additionally, the KCA announced plans to launch the Kerala Women’s Premier League to promote women’s cricket in the state and to establish new academies in Idukki and Thiruvananthapuram aimed at discovering young talent while providing scientific, performance-oriented training with an emphasis on fitness, skill enhancement, and modern coaching techniques.
“Moreover, the General Body has resolved to fortify the existing High Performance Centre, offering advanced training facilities, sports science laboratories, fitness and rehabilitation centers, as well as access to expert coaches,” concluded KCA.
