Sri Lanka Cricket Revises Constitution to Enhance Governance, Transparency, and Inclusivity

Colombo, Dec 20 (NationPress) Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has executed revisions to its constitution aimed at enhancing good governance, transparency, inclusivity, and operational efficiency within its management framework. These amendments were adopted during an extraordinary general meeting held on Friday.

Among the significant changes is a considerable reduction in the overall number of voting members, decreasing from 147 to 60. The new voting framework ensures that voting rights are based solely on the level of cricket played by each member club, allowing all qualified clubs and associations to have only one vote. This represents a crucial advancement toward equitable representation and streamlined decision-making, as communicated by SLC in its release on Friday.

Additionally, to enhance transparency in financial management, the membership unanimously ratified the formation of the Audit Committee, Investment and Budget Committee, and Related Party Transactions Committee, according to the release.

This groundbreaking initiative is anticipated to establish a more level playing field for cricketing stakeholders, ensuring that representation within SLC is reflective of merit and contribution to the development of cricket throughout the country.

The SLC is confident that these constitutional revisions will cultivate a culture of professionalism, transparency, and meritocracy, laying the foundation for the comprehensive growth of cricket in Sri Lanka.

Moreover, the Election Committee for SLC for the year 2025, led by a retired Court of Appeal Judge and consisting of four additional members, was appointed during the Extraordinary General Meeting.

This election committee will manage the preparations and execution of the SLC's upcoming elections, which are scheduled for 2025, as informed by the release.
