New Chandigarh, May 29 (NationPress) While the pace attack built the groundwork for Royal Challengers Bengaluru to dismiss Punjab Kings for a mere 101, leg-spinner Suyash Sharma played a pivotal role in tightening the run flow during the middle overs with his remarkable figures of 3-17.
The googly became Suyash's deadly asset on a well-worn pitch at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, where he claimed the wickets of Shashank Singh, Musheer Khan, and Marcus Stoinis in spectacular fashion, putting RCB firmly on the path to the title clash on June 3 in Ahmedabad.
"We executed the strategies given by the coaches. Today, I felt great (with the ball). I was feeling exceptionally well while bowling. It seemed like the batters struggled to read the googly. The discussion was that this was a semifinal, but we approached it as a regular match. I have dedicated a lot of effort to improving my bowling. Our previous game here was beneficial," Suyash stated in a mid-innings interview with the broadcasters.
During last year’s mega auction, RCB acquired Suyash for INR 2.6 crore, and so far, that investment has yielded results, with the New Delhi-based leg-spinner taking eight wickets in 13 matches at an average of 52.87 and an economy rate of 8.81.
Before achieving success with RCB, Suyash had played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last two IPL seasons. He made his IPL debut as a 19-year-old in 2023, securing ten wickets in 11 games. However, he played only two matches and ended up with wicketless performances in KKR’s victorious IPL 2024 campaign.
In the 2025 season, Suyash disclosed on RCB’s social media platforms that he was battling multiple hernias before IPL 2025, prompting the franchise to send him to London for surgery. He recalled being expected to return only after RCB’s third or fourth matches but ultimately participated from the tournament's opening match against KKR at the Eden Gardens on March 22.
