Tennis: Djokovic and Kyrgios Join Forces for Doubles at Brisbane International

Brisbane, Dec 21 (NationPress) Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios are ready to join forces in the doubles competition at the Brisbane International, an ATP 250 tournament set for December 29 to January 5, 2025.

The initial hint about this exciting pairing came from Kyrgios, who shared a lighthearted post on Instagram featuring a picture from their 2022 Wimbledon singles finale.

His caption, “Doubles at Brisbane. See y’all there,” instantly ignited enthusiasm among fans. The Brisbane International confirmed the news with a playful graphic on social media, stating, “When the plans make it out of the group chat.”

On Saturday, the ATP officially announced the collaboration, declaring, “Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios will play doubles together at the Brisbane International presented by Evie,” as confirmed by the tournament early that morning in Australia.

Kyrgios has faced injury setbacks over the past two years, making his last ATP Tour appearance in June 2023. His comeback at Brisbane will be closely monitored as fans hope to witness glimpses of the talent that earned him seven singles titles and four doubles championships, including a memorable doubles victory at the Australian Open in 2022 alongside fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis.

For Djokovic, the Brisbane International serves as another significant step in his remarkable career. The Serbian star is eager to refine his game ahead of the Australian Open and also aims to secure his 100th ATP singles title, a milestone that would further cement his legacy as one of the sport's all-time greats.

This marks the inaugural occasion that Djokovic and Kyrgios will unite on the doubles court. While both athletes are primarily recognized for their singles accomplishments, they each bring impressive doubles credentials to this collaboration.

Kyrgios achieved qualification for the esteemed ATP Finals in doubles in 2022 and has displayed a talent for exciting net play and innovative shot-making. Conversely, Djokovic claimed an ATP doubles title at Queen’s Club in 2010 alongside Jonathan Erlich, demonstrating his adaptability and exceptional court coverage.
