Nick Kyrgios Makes Comeback to Australia’s Davis Cup Team After Over Five Years

Melbourne, Jan 7 (NationPress) Nick Kyrgios is preparing to rejoin Australia’s Davis Cup team for the first time in over five years, as the 29-year-old has been included in the lineup for the qualifying match in Stockholm, Sweden, taking place on January 31 and February 1.

This will mark Kyrgios’ initial appearance in the prestigious world team event since November 2019, when he secured victories against Belgium’s Steve Darcis and Chilean Alejandro Gonzalez during the finals.

Leading the Australian squad is World No.8 Alex de Minaur, with Jordan Thompson and Thanasi Kokkinakis rounding out the team.

Under the guidance of Lleyton Hewitt, the team aims to build upon their impressive performances from recent years, having finished as runners-up in the 2022 and 2023 Davis Cup Finals, alongside a semifinal finish in Malaga last season.

Kyrgios has a noteworthy history in this event, having participated 11 times between 2013 and 2019, achieving an impressive 11-5 record in singles matches.

The upcoming tie will consist of two singles matches and a doubles match on the first day, followed by reverse singles on the second day, all taking place on an indoor hard court at Stockholm’s Royal Tennis Hall.

The Australian team, which holds a 7-3 head-to-head advantage over Sweden, aims to be among the 13 victorious nations in the Qualifiers' first round to progress to the second round in September.
