New Delhi, May 19 (NationPress) Thailand and Nepal have clinched their spots for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers by finishing first and second respectively in the Asia Qualifiers held in Bangkok.

The tournament featured nine teams vying for the coveted top two positions, which would allow them to advance to the global qualifying tournament. This event will determine the teams that will participate in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, set to take place in England and Wales.

In the final stages, Nepal, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were the last three competitors. Thailand triumphed over the UAE by a significant margin of 54 runs, and Nepal followed suit by defeating the UAE by five wickets on Monday, securing their places in the global qualifiers.

During Thailand’s match against the UAE, Nattaya Boochatham and Natthakan Chatham made notable contributions, scoring 49 and 46 runs, leading their side to a total of 144/5 after they chose to bat first. The UAE managed only 90/5 in response, thanks to some tight bowling from Thailand, particularly by left-arm spinner Thipatcha Putthawong, who recorded figures of 2-27.

In the match against Nepal, despite a cautious innings from Esha Oza, who scored 39 runs, the UAE struggled again as left-arm seam bowler Manisha Upadhayay claimed 4 wickets for just 20 runs, restricting them to 114/7.

Nepal’s captain Indu Barma guided her team to victory after they faced early challenges, finding themselves at 38/3 in the ninth over. Her quick-fire 30 off 28 balls, along with Rubina Chhetry’s 23 runs, helped Nepal reach their target with three balls remaining.

In the global qualifiers, Nepal and Thailand will join Bangladesh and Scotland, who qualified through their participation in the upcoming 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup, alongside the USA, who emerged victorious in the Americas Qualifier held in Argentina in March.

Two spots in the global qualifiers are still available through the forthcoming Europe and Africa Qualifiers, and one additional place will be filled via the East Asia-Pacific qualifying tournament. The dates for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup global qualifiers will be announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in due time.
