How Thorbjornsen Sealed the Title

Thorbjornsen entered the final round three shots behind overnight leader Davis Riley, but capitalised on Riley's early stumbles to surge ahead. He strung together four birdies across a six-hole stretch, taking the outright lead at the 14th hole, before his curling 26-foot putt on the 72nd hole put an exclamation mark on a bogey-free closing round. He also chipped in from 35 feet for birdie at the 12th, a highlight on a day that began with rain and turned gusty once the clouds cleared.

Leaderboard: Where the Challengers Finished

Xander Schauffele, who briefly led during the final round after carding a 65, finished second, two shots adrift. Davis Riley — who started with a one-shot lead — slid to third after a 70 that included four bogeys; he even lost his ball in fescue at the 4th hole despite help from about a dozen spectators. Rasmus Hojgaard shot a 68 to finish alone in fourth, four shots back. Hideki Matsuyama (64), Matt Wallace (67), and Kristoffer Ventura (68) shared fifth, five shots off the pace.

Thorbjornsen is no stranger to high-pressure finishes. He won the 2018 U.S. Junior Amateur, beating Akshay Bhatia — who now has three PGA TOUR wins to his name — in the final. He transitioned directly to the PGA TOUR in 2024 as the No. 1 ranked player in the PGA Tour University standings, bypassing the traditional developmental circuit. The Rocket Classic victory is his first professional major milestone.

Indian-Origin Players Also Advance to Playoffs

Despite missing the cut at Detroit, Akshay Bhatia has already secured his FedExCup Playoffs place. Fellow Indian-origin players Sahith Theegala (supported by Hero), Aaron Rai, and Sudarshan Yellamaraju are also confirmed for the postseason — a notable showing for golfers of Indian heritage on the TOUR's biggest stage.
