Basseterre (St Kitts), July 26 (NationPress) All-rounder Tim David attributed his success to the rigorous training behind his power-hitting, after he showcased an electrifying performance by scoring Australia's fastest T20I century in just 37 balls. This feat helped the visitors secure the series with an impressive chase of 215 runs, winning the match with 23 balls to spare in a boundary-laden evening in St Kitts.
Shai Hope achieved his first T20I century, leading a formidable 125-run opening partnership with Brandon King, propelling the West Indies to a lofty total of 214 for 4. When Australia found themselves at 87 for 4 in the ninth over, the chase seemed challenging.
However, David turned the tide with a phenomenal performance, scoring Australia's fastest T20I fifty in a mere 16 balls, and then clinching his century – which was also the winning shot – with a boundary. His explosive innings included 11 sixes and etched his name in the record books.
Debutant Mitchell Owen also made a significant impact, scoring 36 off just 16 balls and forming a rapid 128-run partnership with David for the fifth wicket in just 46 balls.
"Absolutely not (when asked if he should bat higher), I just enjoyed my time in the middle, seizing every opportunity with the bat. It was great to spend time at home; I had a slight injury and didn’t expect to score a hundred for Australia," David expressed in the post-match presentation.
"The pitch was excellent, and the boundaries were short; I backed myself to play my shots. My experience here paid off. I've put in a lot of effort into my power-hitting and aim to utilize my full range as a stroke-maker," the all-rounder elaborated.
With a 3-0 lead, Australia is poised for a clean sweep in the five-match series, with the remaining two games scheduled for July 27 and 29.
